Aero is Adobe’s newly released AR design tool, with the goal of enabling visual designers to create AR experiences without the complex technical knowledge that is currently a prerequisite for XR design. Working with the Aero designers and product leads, I have run several studies with dozens of target users. One research program investigated the on-boarding and learning experience, which is crucial for any AR-related tool, as there are not established UX norms within the design community. Another set of studies focused on the preferred interaction models as users design interactive content on a mobile platform. Both research programs consisted of ethnographic interviews, concept tests, hands-on usability tests, and contextual inquiries.
